A sample chapter from the training video Vehicle Modeling for Production
The Gnomon Workshop is an industry leader in professional training for artists in the entertainment and design industries. Founded by Alex Alvarez in 2000, it was launched as a means to share techniques with artists who could not attend the hands-on courses offered at Hollywood's Gnomon School of Visual Effects. The company offers training by over 60 instructors for a diverse range of software.
Created with Maya in mind, the video is taken from from The Gnomon Workshop video Vehicle Modeling for Production: Modeling Techniques with Paul Schoeni, available as a digital download or a DVD. Schoeni is a modeller at Dreamworks Animation, working on movies such as Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar 2: The Crate Escape, and Monsters vs Aliens.
The 26-minute tutorial deals with a futuristic helicopter designed by art director Mark Goerner. Schoeni takes you step-by-step through the creation of a simple proxy model.
